I'm excited...I'm going to see the Pink Martini tonight with some friends...they are a great band with a wonderful singer..kind of a blues, jazzy, foreign influence back in the 50's but somehow now modern too band.  They have a real brazilian flavor but they actually began performing in Oregon. I've seen them once before...and they recently did a show for PBS our Public Broadcasting System.  They sing in several languages:  Japanese, French, German, English, Portugese....and probably more that I don't realize.....
here is a link to their site:
Pink Martini  where you can meet the band.  CHINA is the name of their lead singer and she is marvelous.

Cowboy Flower Hat

Preview

Hello all,  finally getting my photos out of my camera.  Recently I attended the Georgetown Garden walk.  One of the little neighborhood parks had this steel hat that they covered in flowers for the event...took two days to cover it in Laurel, carnations and sunflowers.  Pretty amazing.   The even more amazing thing is that it used to be a gas station with some Cowboy boots as restrooms.    See the little clipping...the locals saved it from being demolished and/or moved somewhere else.   So Woohoo for them!  Now they are raising funds to refurbish it and keep it there!  I love that kind of thing..shows real town spirit.   Located just south of Downtown Seattle.  Maria  :)

Calla Lily and an Angel

Not sure why but this pink angel from Donna (Donna's site link) reminded me of the calla lily picture I took on Mother's day at my mom's home.  Calla Lilies are very elegant and serene.   You could say restful and peaceful....I like them.  They look really good with black ribbons or in a black vase.   I think they are sometimes associated with funerals too.  However, that's just one way to think about them...they also look very sohpisticated and simple as a decorative flower in a yard or room.  This is a larger version but there are smaller ones too.

Lavendar Flower Art

Cool Lavender Lemonade

Prep: 5 min., Cook: 5 min., Stand: 2 hrs. The intensity of lavender and mint flavors can be easily adjusted by adding more or less herbs or by steeping for longer or shorter periods of time.

7  cups water
1  cup sugar
1 1/2  cups frozen lemon juice from concentrate, thawed
4  mint sprigs
3  lavender sprigs*
Garnishes: lemon slices, lavender and mint sprigs

Bring 7 cups water to a boil over medium-high heat. Stir in 1 cup sugar, and cook, stirring constantly, 1 to 2 minutes or until sugar dissolves; remove from heat. Stir in lemon juice, mint sprigs, and lavender sprigs; let stand at least 2 hours.

Pour lemonade mixture through a wire-mesh strainer into a large pitcher, discarding herbs. Serve over ice. Garnish, if desired.

*2 tablespoons dried lavender flowers may be substituted.
Yield: Makes about 2 quarts

The Lavendar Festival is this weekend in the outlaying town of Sequim Washington.  I can just smell the fragrances and enivision the fields of purple.  Here I've taken a couple of photos of some lavendar in my own backyard...amidst the ever popular dragonflies....there are a lot of them around this year.    Maria

Flower Art

Flower art comes in many forms. Preview These two little framed pieces are pressed flowers from the microwave and then matted and framed.    The flower petals I used were dalhias and some wild flowers.  Over time the color gets washed out.  I love these two...I used a punch for the swan.  Preview

 Kind of interesting....no?  Maria

Flowers and Swans

PreviewSwans and flowers....in this entry you will see an interesting flower...from a succulent I've heard called chicken and hens.  I've noticed them flowering all over the place...even this little one in my swan planter....nice color..pink!   I intend to have more entries soon.  I've been a bit distracted with getting my computer room organized and with some visiting relatives the last two weekends. I've been getting up later in the mornings and working on printing out some of my photos.  I've had some ideas about cards, shadow boxes and poster photos.  I've been brainstorming some ideas about showcasing some of them along with the works of some others like a friend of mine has done.  More on that later...have a good day all!  Maria
